^Lot 5167 MARTIALLY MARKED REMINGTON NEW MODEL ARMY

PERCUSSION REVOLVER. Cal. 44 S# 36402. Approx 106,000 of these martially marked Remington revolvers were mfg from 1863-75. They were heavily used during the US Civil War and Indian Wars. It is fitted with a 8" octagonal bbl marked 'PATENTED SEPT. 14, 1858 / E. REMINGTON & SONS, ILION, NEW YOUR, U.S.A. / NEW MODEL", "C" sub-inspector, & refreshed or added "P" acceptance proof. The front sight is a custom dovetailed German silver blade with notched frame rear sight. The right side of the frame has a partial "P" inspection proof. "C" is found on the trigger guard. Unmarked cylinder. The grips are of 2-piece walnut with a visible boxed inspection proof on the left panel. CONDITION: Overall fair. The metal surfaces have been cleaned with 15% thinned finish, areas of cleaned pitting, & a couple of spots of oxidation. Markings are good on the top of the bbl, but weak inspection marks are found on the frame from cleaning. The grips are very good with hand wear and a decent mostly visible partially faded cartouche. There is a small repaired chip in the upper corner of the left grip panel. Bore is dark with light rifling wear and pitting. (01-28815/ZAL) ANTIQUE $1200-1800
